The self catering holiday chalets are situated at the northern end of the tiny village of Ardwell between the A716 road and the sea. They are about 50 yards from the shore of Chapelrossan Bay and face east across Luce Bay with fine views to the Galloway Hills in the background.
The location is ideal for family BBQs, kites, sailing, sea angling or beach combing. The nearby village of Sandhead also offers a magnificent sandy beach, with very gentle slope and is less than 5 minutes drive away. (There is also a bus service, Monday to Saturday, which runs from Stranraer to Drummore and back via Sandhead village.) There are several marked walking routes up to Ardwell House and its walled garden, pond walk and shorter walks around the garden and woodlands.
Two miles south of Ardwell Chalets is the world renowned RHS Logan Botanic Garden. Here you will find a huge range of flora species, both domestiic and exotic. The remains of an ancient castle are incorporated into part of the walled garden. There is ample parking, a plant shop, excellent translation and interpretation services for visitors and a good restaurant on site. Down at Port Logan is a wide sandy beach (with bus stop alongside) toilets, parking area, a Fish pond and a pub, The Port Logan Inn and village featured heavily in the BBC TV series, '2000 Acres of Sky'.
Although the village of Ardwell lacks a grocery store or public house, we do have a very good Fishing Tackle and Boat Sales shop! The local villages of Sandhead and Port Logan do have pubs (The Tigh Na Mara and The Port Logan Inn respectively) offering meals and warm hospitality. There is also a tearoom in Sandhead, and a general store offering food and drink, newspapers, post office and bottled gas. More details can be found on 'location' page within this website.
